Two weeks ago, my friends and I went to Barangaroo and Millers' Point. From 6 August to 21 August, there was an outdoor art exhibition at Barangaroo Reserve - Sculpture at Barangaroo. Barangaroo is a newly redeveloped commercial and recreational area around 10 minutes walk from Wynard Station. The Barangaroo precinct is actually named after Barangaroo, a powerful woman of the Cammeraygal tribe, well known for her strong, independent personality and her dedication to her tribe. Apparently once she rejected the gift of a beautiful European dress in order to focus on perfecting her fish hunting skills. The theme of the sculptures mostly focused on maritime, the history of the Barangaroo area, and addresses concepts of femininity.
We got off at Wynard Station and walked along the wharf area before we reached the reserve.

Here are some of my favourite sculptures:
Barangaroo Dreaming, 2016 by Garaywaa Murnawaraga (The Milky Way Daughters, with contributors)

This artwork features a two-metre high petticoat reminiscent of what was commonly worn at the time of early European settlement. The frame has 8 layers, with each layer representing 8 generations, weaved with with lace, shell art, reed, possum skin and feathers.
Standing On Stones, 2016 by Sangeeta Sandrasegar

This sculpture features stone trails that are lines of a poem from Rabindranath Tagore’s Gitanjali, touches on the themes of commitment, femininity and motherhood, which could be seen in the woman Barangaroo.
Construction Barangaroo 2016, 2016 by Marley Dawson
Located on the Stargazer's lawn, this amazing construction reminds me of a birds' nest. The installation itself is a maze, you can enter and exit where there is a space for you to do so. The staff member at this installation told me that the artist built this construction piece by piece without an exact plan.

After Barangaroo, we wandered off to Millers' Point. I knew that Barangaroo, The Rocks, Sydney Observatory were all in the same area, but I have never really walked through Millers' Point. I loved the atmosphere, it was very peaceful, especially in the sunset, and the streets gave a nostalgic feeling different to the modern, busy streets in the city.

And from Millers' Point, we strolled to Observatory Hill, just in time to capture this spectacular view!

There are so many places that I have never been to in Sydney. I hope to explore more in the days to come!
